My children are my life. I love them unconditionally. Without hesitation.
I had them because I love them unconditionally.
Through the baby not sleeping stage, the toddler tantrum stage, the testing the boundaries every step of the way. Even through the asshole teenagery stage, where that conviction was tested many times, my love for them was constant, even if it was through gritted teeth sometimes.
If any of them turned out to be a serial killer, (I'd be questioning my parenting) that would be a definite game changer. I'd still love them of course, I can't switch that off, but I couldn't accept it because that would hurt many people and that wouldn't be acceptable.
But I cannot understand parents that can love with conditions. For example:
Hey mum, dad, I love you.
Aww we love you too honey.
I'm gay/bi/trans whatever.
Get out of this house, you are a disgrace, we don't want to see you again.
Unconditional!
UN CON DITION AL !!!
I've heard people say, it's just a knee jerk reaction but knee jerk reactions come from conditions.
I love you but only if you make choices I agree with, only if you are attracted to the opposite sex, only if you only fall in love with who I deem acceptable.
Unconditional!
